Railroad Employees National Vision Plan became effective on January 1, 1999. The administrator of the plan is Vision Service Plan, or VSP, which has a nationwide network of 17,000 doctors in more than 22,000 locations. Participating doctors provide both eye exams and dispense materials for a convenient one-stop means of obtaining vision care benefits. TCU members may call 1-888-877-4782, or visit the VSP Web site to review the benefits, or to locate a participating doctor. Benefits from participating network doctors Individuals covered in this plan can contact a participating doctor directly for an appointment. Vision examinations, contacts, or glasses can be obtained directly from the network doctor. Participating doctors receive payment directly from VSP and no co-payment is required by a covered person for services or supplies obtained from a participating network doctor. Benefits are also available from non-participating doctors up to the limits of the plan, however, the covered person must submit all paperwork to VSP for reimbursement. A booklet, the Summary Plan Description, describing the plan benefits in detail was sent to all covered TCU members in November, 1998. For customer service call 888-877-4782, or visit the VSP Web site.
